Mississippi River Ice Bubbles, Minneapolis Minnesota
Our home in the city is just a few short minutes of walking from the east bank of the Mississippi River. I have been planning all month to get down to the river in the hopes of photographing bubbles or other interesting formations in the river ice. With the recent warm(er) weather I decided it was time to take that short walk and see what I could see (and photograph). I was not alone in my thinking. There were a number of folks out on the paths below East River Road enjoying the relative warmth after several days of below zero temps. After walking along the edge of the river for about half a mile, I came to the conclusion that this was not the time or the weather for ice bubbles, which usually occur with the thawing and re-freezing cycles of early spring. I did find one clump of frozen bubbles, and although it was not the best formation, I took this photo.
Now I have two reasons to look forward to those early spring days, warmer weather and ice bubbles.
