Under the Falling Sky No. 24
This is the latest image in my Under the Falling Sky series, taken the same evening I captured the sunset panorama in the previous post. As I wrote in that post, this was a gorgeous, but atypical November evening.
As the sunset continued on into the blue hour, I tried various and progressively longer exposures to smoooth out the ripples on the surface of the lake. Besides streaking the clouds as I had hoped, the long exposures seemed to spread the light from the clouds out across the lake. The exposure for this image was two minutes and nine seconds, which with the approach of blue hour and the color shift of a neutral density filter, accentuated the blue of the sky and water.
I’ve said many times that, although similar, no two sunsets are exactly the same. I may have a pretty good idea of what I’ll get when I trip the shutter, but there’s always the off chance of being pleasantly surprised.
