Today’s post is about missed opportunities… We had been planning this trip up to the lake for several weeks. When we finally got here yesterday afternoon, I immediately started planning the sunrise shoot for this morning. I checked the calendar for the sunrise time – 7:37am. Not bad – I have gotten up for sunrise shoots during the summer when sunrise is at 5:30am. I woke up early enough to make a cup of coffee to take along for the short drive over to the public landing on the west side of the lake. As I was driving along the northern edge of the lake I was struck by a beautiful nearly full moon. I thought for a moment about stopping to get a shot, but decided against it since I might miss the sunrise. When I got to the landing, there were low clouds on the eastern horizon and the sky looked almost the same as the frozen lake. I waited, but I was not rewarded with the spectacular sunrise I was hoping for. I headed back to the cabin and did get a couple shots across the smaller lake behind us to the east. Not bad, but I think the moon images would have been better. Moral of the story… Have your goals, but don’t pass up what you run into along the way.
