The F.W. Cappelen Memorial Bridge that spans the Mississippi River at Franklin Avenue in Minneapolis is also known as the “Franklin Avenue Bridge.” Indeed, I would venture to say that few people in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul know the real name of this bridge. I’ve lived here for over thirty years and only recently stumbled upon this plaque at the southwest approach to the bridge, nearly obscured by trees and visible only to walkers.
